Fantastic Fourteen
Balrath FC 5 - 3 Stamullen
14 players took to the field for Balrath Under 9s today and made it 14 games unbeaten at home with a well deserved victory over a strong Stamullen side.
With the return of Matthew from an 8 week injury and prodigal son Warren O Meara (who slotted back into the team as if he had never been away) the squad was buldging with players and each and every one of them played their part.
Captain on the day - Kyle Doherty -opened the scoring with his sixth of the summer but Balrath found themselves 2-1 down after the first period. Zaki started well after the break and walked the ball into the net for the equaliser before Jesse put Balrath back in front with a well struck shot and Shane rounded off a neat passing move to make it 4-2. Stamullen were very strong at the start of the last period and were unlucky not to get back into the game before A combination of Zaki and Shane and a hapless defender resulted in the ball rolling into the net to make it 5-2 with 10 minutes to go. Stamullen never gave up though and their talented number 11 Jack gave them hope with a fine goal before the end.
It was a cracking game full of brilliant performances from both sets of players but there was one young man whose bullish determination and will to win made him stand out from the crowd. My man of the match today is, of course, Kyle Doherty. Well done Kyle and all the lads it was a pleasure to watch you play today! I can't wait for next week!
