The following is a match report from our on site reporter Jimmy Dunne who was at Knockharley at the weekend to review the Silent Sidline.
A kind of hush fell over Knocharley Cricket Club last Saturday morning as Balrath FC deployed their ' Silent Sideline ' initiative for their home games. Balrath FC have embraced this League Directive in order to reduce the Conflicting, Confusing and often Discouraging remarks of parents, supporters and even coaches. ( A kind of two many tongues spoils the the game. ). Lolipops were supplied to all adults as a ' Goodwill Gesture ' to help stem the temptation to blurt out something. ( Not so encouraging ).
Holding your tongue was difficult as Balrath FC contested a thrilling match against Clonee. Clonee dominated the first half and led by two goals at the interval. Balrath came alive in the second half leveling the game to 2-2 with goals from Shane Smith and Kyle Doherty. Clonee went ahead again against the run of play. With the clock ticking down the home crowd were biting their tongues. Then a brilliant one two between Smith and Doherty resulted in in Shane Smith scoring his second goal to give Barath FC under 9s a well deserved equalizer and end this excitIng contest 3-3. The sound of Cheering, Applause and encouragement greeted both sides for this display.
In my view, the Sound of Silence was a clear winner in seeing the kids enjoying themselves immensely without undue pressure.
Encouragment and Applause came out on top in an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.
Well done everybody !
